On Tuesday night The Mount Alexander Council, in thier wisdom, unanimously rejected an attempt by The Exclusive Brethren to build a stadium in Blakeley road, for the express purpose of preaching hate, among other less inflammatory topics.
The Magna Carta was written in the year of our Lord 1215 (a long time ago)
It stated, among other things, that no man (or woman, for that matter) shall be imprisoned, who has committed no crime. The creation of this basic human right led to the abolition of slavery a mere 600 years later.
Yet, to this very day, as we wallow in our abundant freedoms, (that we have enjoyed for several weeks now) there are some among us who are not free to come and go as like, or to speak their mind to whomever they please. The people l am talking about are members of secretive cult that hides among us in plain sight. Some might say they have joined the cult of their own free will. But we all know they were born into that cult, and who would claim to have chosen their own parents?
Some would claim that cult members are free to leave when ever they choose, but just like poor Gulliver in Lilliput, they are restrained by a thousand tiny threads. For if you ever had the audacity leave the cult and strike out on your own, you would be severed from everything you have ever held dear: Your partner, your children, your family your friends, your job and your house, just to name a few.
It would be very easy to see this as a form of blackmail, wouldn’t it?
A very effective form of blackmail indeed. It is almost like your loved ones are hostages.
The cult l describe of course, is our very own Exclusive Brethren, and after much soul searching and in depth analysis it becomes abundantly clear that THE fundamental problem with our Brethren is that very exclusivity that they hold so close to their collective bosoms.
All meaningful interaction with the outside world is strictly forbidden, and the punishment is severe: It begins with ostracization: The victim, who has decided one day, in a flight-of-fancy become gay, for example,( just to try it out and see what it feels like, no doubt) is shunned by every other member of the cult: You will be forced to eat alone in silence until you REPENT. If repentance is not extracted by this torture, the next stage is banishment: You will be expelled, flung out into the waists of Sodom and Gomorra, to survive as best you can amongst the Godless heathens and heretics whom you have learnt to fear from the day you were born.
Imagine how it must feel to be totally abandoned by everyone you have every loved, at a moment in your life when you need that love and understanding like never before.
Let us not muddy the waters here, this is not a religious issue. This is a human rights issue. It is illegal in this state to persecute gay people because of their sexual orientation, especially if that persecution involves pressuring them to repent of their ‘wicked ways’.
The Brethren must be persuaded to abandon this particular tenant of their faith as it is illegal, and it is cruel !
The Amish actually encourage young people to go out into the world and see the immorality with their own eyes. They soon come scuttling back to mother with their tail between their legs.
It is a test of faith, the Bible is full of them, and any faith that forbids that test has no faith in their own faith. Let’s face it, any faith that is too scared to put its faith to the test is a faithless faith indeed!
No other sect in the world is quite so strict. Even The Taliban allow women to interact with non-Taliban, and even non-Muslim’s. Whereas the Brethren even forbid interaction with other ever so slightly different flavoured Christian fundamentalists, who only split from the Brethren over some esoteric interpretation of the Old Testament. The Brethren are splitters, not joiners.
If The Elect Vessel, in his infinite wisdom decrees one day, that all cult members must forthwith squeeze their toothpaste from one end, then so be-it. From that moment on everyone is forbidden under pain of death, to even speak to the heretics who squeeze it from the middle, lest they be cast from the kingdom of heaven to spend all eternity burning in the fires of hell, where no one brushes their teeth from one day to the next. (so l am told)
So we here at Atheists Anonymous are putting out a welcome mat, in the spirit of Xmas if you like, inviting the Brethren to break bread with us. Come amongst us, get a feel for ‘the vibe of the thing’. Come on in the water’s fine. Ok, so we love Satan, but we love you too!
For too long you have hidden yourselves from us, shunned the light, fearful of our strange ways. Come and join us, commune with us in a spirit of community. Do not hide your light under bushel. (that’s from the Bible, you know) Let your people make a free and informed choice.
It is only fair, and this IS the land of the fair go!
