Gilead to the rescue

Hey, l don’t usually believe conspiracy theories, but this one sounds pretty authentic:
Apparently there is a giant multi-national drug company called Gilead. Now that makes me curious right from the start. Why would you go and give yourself a notorious name like Gilead unless you were planning something evil? Or maybe Margaret Atwood got wind of the scheme and was trying to warn us, l don’t know, but the plot goes like this:
We Gilead, invent this awesomely contagious deadly virus. At the same time we develop a vaccine for it, which we keep secret for the time being, of course. First we release the virus in some place like China so everyone will blame them. Nice move eh? Then we just sit back and watch it spread, and spread it does, like peanut butter.! Before too long the entire population is out of their minds with fear, and willing to give up anything to stop the virus, absolutely anything, even their liberty! That’s when we bring in Total Lock-Down, for everyone, everywhere. The entire world imprisoned indefinitely, just think of it, what an awesome achievement! Then we unveil the vaccine. But the vaccine is not for everyone mind you. No one gets a shot unless they pay for it, and pay for it they will, for only then will they regain their beloved freedom. This is called ‘marketing’. If they do happen to regain their beloved freedom, after paying an extortionate amount of money for it, literally, only then will they truly value that freedom, in U.S. dollars!
After emerging from their months, or years of confinement, they might just notice a few changes around the place, a few Gilead logos on public buildings, on Neighborhood Watch uniforms, on Police uniforms, on Military uniforms,. Nothing too dramatic mind you, just a subtle ‘changing of the guard’.

Apparently , Gilead the pharmacuetical company was formed in 1987,
A Handmais Tale was written in 1985, so it is possible the Pharmacuetical company were modelling themselves on the distopian regime in the book, but l can’t remember if Gilead was even in the book, or just the film.
According to The Bible, Gilead is a hill in the land of Gad.
The land of Gad was split in half by the river Jabbok.
The southern half was ruled by King Segub the Wise.
The Northern half was ruled by King Og the Dull.
It seems like just about everyone had funny names back then.
Actually, to tell you the truth, l don’t really believe that Gilead want to control the world like in the movie, I just made the whole thing up. But as Richard Nixon once said: ‘There is a grain of truth in every lie’.
But then he was a liar and he probably didn’t even say it.
However, there really is a giant multi-national conglomerate that claims to have a treatment for The Virus. (not a vaccine) The drug is called Remdecivir. It worked with Sars1 and Mers patients and is under trial as we speak, but Gilead is renowned for ‘price gouging’ in the past, especially with their AIDS drugs, so a campaign has already begun to shame them into releasing the formula free to the world.
